Sisters and Joints

Joint: Of the drug free sort.  If you were thinking THAT, you couldn't possibly have been more wrong because the lesson was actually on the Word of Wisdom.  So, bringing a joint teach (a member that accompanies the missionaries as they teach an investiagtor) was always nerve racking as a missionary.  You never knew what was going to come out of their mouth.  Usually it worked out so well but sometimes, you wanted to smack them.

Today I went with them to one of their appointments.  They are such good sisters.  They were well prepared and invited the spirit into the lesson.  It was interesting to be on the other side.  It was really nice.  I thought a lot about how this same thing is going on all over the world in living rooms, huts, yards and just about anywhere else where someone is willing to listen.  Such an amazing work is being wrought about by such quiet moments.

I went out shopping later in the day.  Everything is smaller and more expensive here.  It was fun to wander in and out of stores and read all the funny labels.  What would these people do if they walked into a Wal-Mart?

I was in a grocery store when a Turkish Muslim woman came to the checkout stand with her hands full.  The basket looked so heavy and she was struggling to lift it.  There are some people here that have some pretty harsh feelings about all of the foreigners.  I watched as a sweet old Dutchman reached out and helped this woman set her basket on the belt.  Then her purse got stuck and he helped her to untangle it.  They couldn't communicate with each other at all, so instead they exchanged smiles.  That is the solution to all the worlds problems.  Okay maybe not all but a lot.  Why are we so quick to judge and hate?  Bless that old man.  It really is all about the little things isn't it?
