A good friend of mine got married. Her name is Samah and she is beautiful. She was the first Jordanian to serve an LDS mission. She has the gift of translation and has blessed the North Branch in so many ways. I worked with her sister in Young Womens and her brother is in the Branch Presidency. They are a super neat family.
This is how a Christan Wedding works here in Jordan (1st: there is ALWAYS a camera man present and sometimes it made me super self conscious but you gotta roll with it)....
The Bride's family and friends are invited over to her home to enjoy being together one last time with her as a single woman. There is music and chanting and drinks. Then it is time to say goodbye. She hugs her family and it is a tough moment because next, the grooms family all comes and leads her away to the waiting car (literally, taking her from her family so that she can join theirs).
And these are a few of the sights we saw on our trip:
Once you get to the church you wait for the bride to arrive. In the mean time the grooms family celebrates... music, dancing, singing. As the bride steps out, the celebration continues on the grooms side but the brides family quietly observes.
Everyone moves inside the church for the ceremony.
It is followed by a reception line and party.
Hanging out it the parking lot with the Tashmans and the Farley's.
It was a really neat day but super emotional. It is hard watching the brides family mourn losing a daughter while the grooms family celebrates gaining one. In they end they will all be able to spend time with her but she usually moves in with the husbands family and becomes integrated into their home.
